Fairytale Castles Around the World

Bran castle, Translyvania Romania (the famous Dracula castle)

Peles castle, Sinaia Romania

What makes castle so intriguing to most people?

Perhaps, it is always associated with prince and princess living happily ever after in fairytales.

Perhaps, it is the grandeur.

Or perhaps, it is the symbol for most ancient cities.

Of all the castle I have visited before, Neuschwanstein remains my favourite and the most fairytale like castle. No wonder even Disney 'borrowed' the idea of their theme parks castle from this one.

Some of the famous castles from the places I visited so far..

Hmm.. I shall write another one of palaces next time.
Linlithgow castle, Scotland (birthplace of Queen of Mary Scots)

Edinburgh castle, Scotland

Alnwick castle, England (one of the famous Hogwarts filming location)

Kronborg castle, Denmark (the setting for Hamlet)

Frederiksberg castle, Copenhagen Denmark
Segovia alcazar, Spain (one of the Disney's castle inspiration)

Cordoba alcazar, Spain

Seville alcazar, Spain
Palais of Pena, Portugal (not exactly a castle)
Prague castle, Prague

Neuschwanstein castle, Germany (the famous castle of them all)
Wawel castle, Krakow Poland

Sintra, Portugal (24 May 2009)

The next day, we took a day trip to Sintra, about 28km from Lisbon. We then took the nearby bus to go to the Moorish castle and of course the famous Palace of Pena. Moorish castle was just a normal looking castle which looks like Great Wall of China in the middle of a forest. The cost to go in was cheap and indeed hiking up those great wall lookalike wall was quite a tough case.

The Great Wall lookalike wall

After conquering the great wall lookalike castle in jungle, we headed to the famous Palace of Pena. From outside the castle looks a bit dodgy with paints all peeled off from the wall. The palace does look a bit like those fairytale kind from far

Lisbon , Portugal (23-25 May 2009)

We took a 7 hour bus from Seville all the way to Lisbon as there train from Andalucia was quite scarce. By the time we took the metro to our hostel , it was late at night. We decided to book one of the highest ranking hostel in hostelworld and to our surprise, the hostel indeed live up to the its ranking. We got a room which was quite nice for our 3 nights stay for bout 30 euros per night. However the decoration of the room was quite weird as there were this photo/painting of a scene similiar to CSI.

see the white paper on the wall..I had to cover a dead body picture

The next day we woke up early to get to Belem which is about 20 mins aways from Lisbon. The town itself was full of historical monuments such as this huge monastery and of course the tower of BElem. There was this tower/I also not sure what the hell is it.. where it has all the famous Portuguese voyagers that I learnt in Sejarah Tingkatan 4 such as Vasco Da Gama and also Alfonso Du Albuqueque who conquered Malacca and also the famous prince which name I have forgotten that started out all this world voyagers and conquering.
